The Flyers

Wheeling Nailers

The Wheeling Nailers announced today they have reached an affiliate agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2007-08 season, according to club President Jim Brooks.

I was a fan of the Trenton Titans, but as soon as they were purchased by the New Jersey Devils organization, that ended. I just can’t bring myself to be involved in anything owned by the Devils. At any rate, it’s good to see the Flyers finally decide on an ECHL affiliation.

Good Lord. I guess I won’t be attending too many games.

Although not exactly what I was hoping for, it is about time SOMETHING happened. Finally, the Flyers signed Antero Niittymaki to a two year deal. They expect him to back up the newly signed Marty Biron. For most normal NHL teams, the backup goalie doesn’t tend to see a lot of ice time. However, with the non-normal Flyers, they tend to split the duty about 60%-40%. Of course, with a completely new coaching and administrative staff, things may change. Let’s just hope the future will be bright for the Flyers.

If I have to go through what I did last season, I’m not sure how long my heart will last.

It was amazing, but the Flyers actually won the last game of the season. They beat the NHL leading Buffalo Sabres 4-3. It was actually a really great game to watch.

They finished the season with 22 wins, 48 losses, and 12 OT losses for 56 points. 56 POINTS. That is the lowest point total in their 40 year history. That sounds bad at first, but lets not forget the old days when the league only played 72 games a year versus the current 82.

This season really does redefine the word Suck.

I knew it was coming and the writing was on the wall.

The Flyers have traded Peter Forsberg to the Nashville Predators for some players I’ve never heard of and some draft picks.

The Flyers have not won a game this year without Forsberg. Although, they also suck pond water this year as well. I am really about done with sports. I just can’t take it.

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.”

If you don’t know what movie that is from, shame on you.

The snow is really coming! The weatherperson says we should get around 6-9 inches when the storm is done…

I had a “day off today.” Usually that means I had a Dr.’s appointment. Waiting for the Dr. is more like it. Blood pressure looks great, and the Dr. was really impressed with the information I could give him regarding my diet. By impressed I mean baffled. So that finally went well.

Of course, last night the Flyers not only won, but KILLED the Red Wings. Let me tell you why. My crappy TV cable doesn’t carry the new Versus (formally OLN) network. The Flyers have 9 games a year on VS. So I was stuck listening to them on Sirius. It is, in fact, better then nothing.

Well somehow they pulled out a win. Wait, I mean they killed. 6-1, scoring 5 goals in the 3rd period. And all because I couldn’t watch them on TV. Thanks RCN!

The Shuttle desktop is 100% back in operation and now (unfortunatley) dual-booting Gentoo and Windows XP. Sometimes I just have to break down and play games in Windows I guess. Against my better judgment of course…

Well we all know the Flyers really, really, really, suck this year, but for some reason they have the Atlanta Thrashers this season. The orange and black have won their last 5 games over the Thrashers, with 3 of them this season.

It also turns out that it has been quite the Finnish goalie battle. All games have pitted Flyers goalie Antero Niittymaki versus the Thrashers Kari Lehtonen. Both goalies are from Finland.

Better still is that Lehtonen was the main net minder for the Chicago Wolves and Niittymaki was the goalie for the Phantoms when they won the cup two seasons ago. They did, by the way, win the final cup series by sweeping the Wolves four to zip.

My guess is that the Flyers will trade Peter Forsberg soon. Even he is getting angry over the Flyers and how their total suckage:

“I’ve been frustrated lately – every single game,” Forsberg told reporters after the game. “I told [Mike] Knuble before the game to drag me out of there and keep me quiet. I’ve been frustrated at losing and not playing good. It’s something I have to work on.”

He was even benched for the last three minutes of the second period in yesterday’s game. I’m sure that went over well.

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to excite me, but when the Flyers have gone 9 games without having a win, I think this is a good reason.

Although the Flyers still really suck, it seems they have been playing a lot better lately. The games have been much closer and losses aren’t generally by 3-5 goals. Again, baby steps.

It was a great Sunday afternoon game that was very close throughout. Jeff Carter scored both Philadelphia goals with the second coming with 1:03 left in the third period.

They are still 11-32-5…
