I added another entry in the Links list that lists the current comic books that I am reading. Sure I am a bit old for comics, but who cares.
General Nonsense
I get a lot of email. Read again, A LOT of email. I am subscribed to quite a few mailing lists for a bunch of open source projects and Linux distros. For the most part, I read and delete mail rather quickly. Sometimes too quickly. A few times after reading something in my non-mailing list mailboxes, I wish I wouldn’t have deleted so quickly. Thank goodness mutt is has so many configuration options.
folder-hook . 'macro index d
folder-hook =INBOX$ 'macro index d "
folder-hook =INBOX.Daubenspeck$ 'macro index d "
That is all it takes. The first line is the default catch all. In my example, it tells d to act normally and delete files without the trash. The second and third line does the work for the two mailboxes that I need a trash folder for.
I won’t talk about the recent Apple computer acquisition at work. I won’t do it only because I know people at work read my blog and I don’t want to incriminate myself. Enough said on that front.
However, I won’t lie. I was actually VERY close to buying a Mac. Not for Mac OSX. It really is no better then Windows, I don’t care what anyone says. The way Mac handles applications is, well, really retarded. Even after closing all application windows, the application is still considered “open and running.” If you have never used a Mac, then you have no idea what I mean. If you have used a Mac, then you do, and you know it’s really stupid.
The only reason I considered buying a Mac was because there are very few laptop vendors that offer 13 inch laptops. I don’t want something huge anymore. I want something small. If I want to see a 21″ screen, I will use my desktop.
Besides, some things at work have really sealed the deal. I will NEVER buy a Mac. Their “customer support” just isn’t worth it.
More upgrades! Upgraded the server to PHP/5.2.1-pl3-gentoo as well as went through all of the gallery upgrades. Gallery’s upgrade process really can’t be any easier. I’ve yet to have a problem, even with all of the user galleries I have installed.
I also upgraded my truck. My 1999 Dodge Durango is starting to show its age, and I’m just about to turn 125,000 miles. Mind you, I never had to replace a single (large/major) thing since the day I bought it. That’s pretty good if you ask me, since I tend not to take care of vehicles very well. I searched around and priced out a new Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7-Liter HEMIĀ® Multi Displacement Engine. That should really help my gas mileage.
Oh well, I want a truck with some extra juice. This should do it.
The dealer that I went to could not locate the exact model that I wanted. They searched the nearby dealers and came up with zilch. So, I am going to have to wait for 6-8 weeks to have one custom built. Such is life, at least this way I get exactly what I want.
Talk about a snow storm!
I have been messing around with Apache lately. I have added a few more users to the colo server that wanted to mess with mod_python and some mod_dav.
www.oddprocess.org running Apache/2.0.58 (Gentoo) mod_python/3.1.4 Python/2.4.3 mod_ssl/2.0.58 OpenSSL/0.9.8d DAV/2 SVN/1.3.2 PHP/5.1.6-pl6-gentoo.
The server string is getting longer and longer…
Wow it has been some time since I posted. I’ve been busy. Mainly with Guild Wars. Wow is that game addictive. It has a few great changes to the standard MMORPG that most still do not have.
To speed the game up, when you move into “explorable areas,” each player or team gets a copy of their own area. That means you get your own things to fight and your own things to accomplish, without other players buzzing around you all the time. At first I didn’t think I would like it, but playing without all of the extra public junk in the game is quite a switch. I like it.
You can also save a lot of time when traveling. Once you have visited an area, it is then displayed clearly on your map and you can travel to it simply by clicking the map. No more 20 minute runs from area to area like the other games.
Of course other games will always have that, because they charge a monthly fee to play. Guild Wars still remains free, and is more then worth it.
31 years old. It really is down hill after 30…
A lot of interesting things have happened on February 17th.
The Flyers also kicked the hell out of the Rangers today too. Happy Birthday to me is right!
The snow is really coming! The weatherperson says we should get around 6-9 inches when the storm is done…
I had a “day off today.” Usually that means I had a Dr.’s appointment. Waiting for the Dr. is more like it. Blood pressure looks great, and the Dr. was really impressed with the information I could give him regarding my diet. By impressed I mean baffled. So that finally went well.
Of course, last night the Flyers not only won, but KILLED the Red Wings. Let me tell you why. My crappy TV cable doesn’t carry the new Versus (formally OLN) network. The Flyers have 9 games a year on VS. So I was stuck listening to them on Sirius. It is, in fact, better then nothing.
Well somehow they pulled out a win. Wait, I mean they killed. 6-1, scoring 5 goals in the 3rd period. And all because I couldn’t watch them on TV. Thanks RCN!
The Shuttle desktop is 100% back in operation and now (unfortunatley) dual-booting Gentoo and Windows XP. Sometimes I just have to break down and play games in Windows I guess. Against my better judgment of course…
Usually I use the weekend to slack off, but I got a lot of things done this weekend for a change. I worked out both days and stuck with the standard routine. Today is Day 4, or rest day.
However, from now on I will be putting all of workout/fitness stuff in a separate blog called My New Life. I know it’s a corny and cheesy name, but I needed something and that fits. So shut it.
I will be posting a quick blurb daily about the workout stuff as well as a quick snapshot showing the days caloric intakes. I’m not so much interested in “promoting a blog,” but more keeping a diary for myself. So again, head on over there to watch my progress…
I also finally, as well as reluctantly, installed Windows XP onto the empty partition of my new Shuttle PC. I bought a few new games that have no Cedega support yet. Hopefully yet that is. So I installed Windows and I hope to get the dual-boot setup today or tomorrow. That way, I won’t be stuck when I want to play a game that doesn’t specifically work perfectly in Cedega. I just need to setup grub to handle the dual booting and I will be all set.
