Welp, I guess all good things come to an end…

Since I’ve made the “switch” to Twitter, I really haven’t posted much here at all. Twitter is quicker, and honestly, keeping my madness to 140 characters is probably a good idea. Plus, seeing as how 95% of the stuff I do tweet is sports, it doesn’t make for a very interesting blog.

Not that my Twitter feed is interesting, mind you.

But it seems that the WordPress plugin I’ve been using (twitter-tools) is really broken. Reading the online help forums for the plugin shows that it isn’t broken just for me, and that the problems are very common. I’m getting lazy in my old age, so I decided against poking around the code to see if I could come up with something. Besides, why try to reinvent the wheel? I already found a perfect solution. Tweet Nest. It does the same sort of thing twitter-tools used to do, but skips WordPress completely and has it’s own MySQL database. The only drawback was that the Twitter API has a limitation of only providing access to the last 3200 tweets. As of this writing, I have just shy of 9900 tweets. It would be nice to have everything all in one place, but you know, cake, eating it too, etc etc.

A lot of people ask why I even care about archiving my tweets. Good question. I don’t know. They are mine, I like to browse through them from time to time, just for the hell of it. Plus, on random occasions, I actually post some Linux command-line-foo, and it’s nice to have that stuff in a searchable archive. Search the database, and blammo, no need to search the web for something I’ve already figured out.

Again with the long-winded stuff. So, unless something drastic changes with the twitter-tools plugin in the next few days, I’ve moved all my twitter nonsense to my own Tweet Nest install. A new tool, but with the same old content.
