Well here they are, the Cedega settings I have been using to get Counter-Strike: Source running perfectly.

General Settings

Graphics Settings

Audio Settings

As you can see on the Audio settings page, I am still using ALSA’s OSS emulation. For some strange reason that is the only way I could get my headset’s microphone sounding decent enough to use. Using straight ALSA created a loud, choppy, buzzing sound whereas the OSS did not.

I am totally addicted to Counter-Strike: Source. I can’t get enough of it. Even if I’m playing against bots, I still can’t get enough. John and I have been playing on and off, and I’m starting to get better and better.

However, the good news is that after weeks of testing, tweaking, changing, running, testing, and cursing, I finally got it running well in Cedega. Translation: I can play a (generally) Windows-only game on my Linux desktop.

Yes. That is a VERY good thing.

I am finally back to work after the Thanksgiving holiday and I assure you I wasn’t excited to return. I did anyway, mainly because I like getting paid.

I won’t comment much on sports. The Flyers are still, well, the Flyers. The Eagles are just a giant pile of suck. End sentence.

We are still working on trying to get some sort of street hockey game going. It looks like our first game/attempt should be December 9th. That doesn’t leave much time for me to get in some sort of shape. I was digging through my old equipment and most of it is just that; old. I should still be able to use my old Easton aluminum hockey stick, although it does have a crack near the blade. I’ll see how long it holds out before investing in another. On the way home from work I stopped at The Sports Authority and checked out their hockey section. It was really rather poor. I did end up picking up some street hockey balls, a mini-net, and a pair of CCM hockey gloves on clearance. What can I say, the price was right. I did find my old hockey blades, but I think they might be a size too small. The games will start out all without skates, mainly so no one breaks anything major. Otherwise, I might see some new skates and a stick in the near future.

And maybe an oxygen tank. I might need it.

I have really been getting back into gaming lately. Not only with Game Nights with the CPLUGers, but I have been playing on my own as well.

Since I had a bit of free time, John and I decided to try out a bit of Counter-Strike:Source. WOW is that a great game. We have played the original, non Source engine Counter-Strike Half-Life mod at the last two Game Nights, and I have really really fallen in love with it. I never thought the same style game would be so much better with the new Source engine. Is it ever. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. Not only are the player models 100 times better looking, but the surrounding scenery is really stunning.

If you are into multi-player, first person shooters, please go get it. Get it now. It’s only $30. Do yourself a favor.

It came to my attention on IRC this afternoon that some people might be interested in playing some “recreational hockey.” I used to play hockey all the time back in my high school days, and wouldn’t mind getting back into it. Back in those days some of the games turned into slashfests and near brawls. That, however, really was the fun of it.

I really need to get in shape though. I think if I ran for more then 30 seconds I would pass out.

On the next trip to my parents house I’ll have to dig around and see if I can locate any of my old equipment. I bet some of that old stuff should look and smell pretty interesting after being shoved in a closet for a decade…

I have made a few more changes to the new site. I added some of the old links to the link list on the right sidebar. I added an (empty) About page as well as the standard GPG key page. I also added links to my Gallery, older pictures pages (pre-gallery), my geocaching page, as well as my old archives. All is still there and working perfectly. I was actually thinking of writing a script to convert my old posts (all in the MySQL database) to the new WordPress format and them import them into the new database. However, I think the old archiving system works just fine for now. The Categories section will also grow with time as more posts are made. So far so good!

I don’t know what to say. I really don’t. I try to remain so optimistic. I am about to give up. I’m not even talking about the Flyers. This time I am talking about the Eagles.

They are terrible. They are awful. Do me a favor, take out a thesaurus and find me the perfect synonym for terrible.

Donovan McNabb was knocked out of the game in the 2nd quarter, and his backup Jeff Garcia is just a big giant pile of suck. The whole team has fallen from a mediocre team to a team with no hope left. They supposedly have the number 1 rated offense in the league (according to the stats only) but that doesn’t matter when you can’t score points and you can’t win games versus teams with a 2-7 record.

I need a new hobby. Sports just aren’t doing it for me anymore.

Edit: You guessed it, McNabb will be out for the season.

Wow. Talk about a heart attack game.

The Flyers started out well but slowly fizzled into the 3rd period down 3 goals to 1. Just at that point, they had some luck and a lot of guts and within 40 seconds the game was tied at 3-3. Just 3 minutes later, the Flyers took the lead with a blast from R.J. Umberger to take the lead.

And then it went bad. Not for the Flyers; for me. I was watching the game on Comcast Sportsnet, and with just 2 minutes left in the game, the Comcast feed went black. Nothing. No audio, no video, just blank. Luckily the NHL.com website has links to all of the audio broadcasts for every game. It nearly killed me to only LISTEN to the last 2 minutes, but it was better then nothing.

The final score, 4-3, Flyers. A winning streak has to start somewhere…
